Our client, Sompo is seeking a Senior Accountant - Accounting Policy & Projects to join their Finance team in the Bermuda office. This position has responsibility for global research, documentation and implementation of accounting policy, including delivering guidance on IFRS 17, assisting with group reporting and oversight of various projects and other deliverables. The successful candidate will report to the AVP, Accounting Policy Manager and work closely with the corporate accounting groups with the aim of optimizing GL data streams and provision of information for reporting purposes.Duties and Responsibilities:Assist in the preparation of group IFRS financial statements.Provide technical expertise in relation to IFRS 17 accounting guidance and emerging issues.Identify and evaluate key policy choices and interpretations in relation to IFRS 17 implementation.Analyze accounting standard updates as they are issued and assist in the implementation of new accounting standards.Support the implementation of financial reporting changes globally and maintain compliance.Assist in the documentation of accounting for M&A.Support global teams in documenting accounting errors and estimates where needed to support positions with outside audit firms.Perform accounting research on various topics as they arise.Support the documentation and ongoing maintenance of corporate accounting policies and procedures manual.Assist in developing IFRS 17 related education and training sessions for global finance teams as necessary.Assist with additional projects as they arise.Qualifications, Skills & Experience:Internationally recognized accounting qualification (e.g. CA, CPA).Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience at a public accounting/auditing or re/insurance company.At least 3 years' progressively responsible IFRS accounting and reporting experience, preferably in the property & casualty re/insurance industry.Detailed working knowledge of IFRS; knowledge of IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 accounting standards essential.Proven ability to research complex accounting topics, understand the practical implications and document emerging accounting guidance.Effective communication skills to coordinate with internal finance staff members and external auditors.Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills; we require a highly motivated and committed individual.Must be a team player with a willingness to assist across all areas of corporate reporting where needed.Must be extremely organized, deadline focused and able to execute.Proficiency in both Microsoft Excel and Word; advanced analytical spreadsheet skills a plus.Knowledge of SAP GL systems or a similar GL package and experience with GL reporting packages preferred.Proven ability to work under pressure with significant overtime, and ability to meet tight deadlines and respond to changing priorities.Ability to travel occasionally to other offices as required for project related work.Sompo offers a competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience.Sompo is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce.
