The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a highly skilled and experienced individual to work as a Deputy Director in our Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department. Reporting to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer, the Deputy Director will be responsible for leading and delivering advanced data, analytics, and automation capabilities that directly support the Authority’s prudential, supervisory, and regulatory mandates.This role requires a combination of strategic leadership, deep technical expertise, and hands-on and practical solution delivery and implementation experience in regulated financial environments. The post-holder will play a central role in designing, governing, and operationalising the Authority’s enterprise data and analytics capabilities, ensuring they are scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with international supervisory best practices.This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for but not limited to: Leading the design, implementation, and ongoing evolution of enterprise-level data and analytics platforms, including modern data estates spanning cloud-native and hybrid architectures, to support supervisory, regulatory, and policy decision-making Defining and embedding data governance, data management, and data access standards across the Authority in alignment with regulatory, legal, and information security requirements Designing, developing, and operationalising advanced supervisory and management reporting solutions, including predictive, diagnostic, and risk-based analytics to support prudential supervision, authorisation, enforcement, and licensing activities Driving the integration of structured and unstructured data from regulatory filings, supervisory systems, external data providers, and internal operational sources to enable advanced analytics and automated insights Overseeing and providing hands-on senior-level implementation for the extraction, transformation, and analysis of large-scale regulatory and financial datasets, including solvency, capital adequacy, governance, and risk management data across multiple regulated sectors Producing high-quality analytical outputs, dashboards, and executive-level reports that inform senior management, internal committees, and external stakeholder engagements Providing subject matter leadership on the application of data science, machine learning, and advanced analytics within a financial regulatory and supervisory context Ensuring the robustness, auditability, and explainability of analytical models and automated decision-support tools used in regulatory processes Leading and mentoring multidisciplinary teams of data engineers, data scientists, and analysts, setting technical standards and ensuring high-quality delivery Collaborating closely with supervisory departments, IT, legal, risk, and external vendors to ensure analytics solutions are fit for purpose and operationally embedded Supporting organisational capability-building through hands-on senior-level solution development, training, and coaching of staff in the interpretation and responsible use of data-driven insights Acting as a senior technical and analytical advisor within the department, working in close collaboration with the Chief Data & Analytics Officer, and contributing to enterprise-wide strategic initiatives Providing oversight and guidance on project planning, delivery methodologies, and governance for complex data and analytics initiativesThis position requires the following skills, abilities and interests: A Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, actuarial science, data science, or a closely related quantitative discipline A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant professional experience, with at least five (5) years at a senior leadership level within a financial regulatory authority, central bank, or similarly complex regulated financial environment Advanced proficiency in designing and operating modern enterprise data architectures, including cloud-based data platforms, data lakes, data warehouses, and analytics services within a regulated setting Deep hands-on experience with modern data engineering and analytics practices, including CI/CD, DevOps, DataOps, source control, and automated testing frameworks Advanced proficiency in end-to-end data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and the operationalisation of analytics and reporting solutions Strong understanding and practical application of machine learning techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning, natural language processing, and pattern recognition, with a focus on explainability and regulatory use cases Strong understanding of advanced statistical and quantitative methods to financial, prudential, and supervisory data Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and related data and analytics technologies, with working knowledge of R or Spark considered an asset Advanced proficiency with business intelligence and data visualisation tools, including Power BI, with the ability to translate complex analytical outputs into clear regulatory insights Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels, bridging architecture, implementation, and business outcomes Strong analytical judgment, problem-solving ability, and a regulatory mindset Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills, with the ability to advise and support senior management and executive-level decision-making
