The Social Work Assistant works under the direct supervision of Social Workers and is responsible to the Coordinator and ultimately to the Senior Programme Manager. Collaborates with Social Workers to conduct professional assessments around care and protection of children and carries out service plans with at-risk families and foster families. Assesses child protection referrals to determine screening responses of the department. Role models appropriate behavior, connects clients with community resources and performs some clerical duties. The Social Work Assistant assists the lead Social Worker in providing direct client intervention and administrative assistance in order to execute investigations, implement client Service Plans and conduct SIR inquiries. The Social Work Assistant also serves the function of intake screeners.

Requirements

The post holder must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience in an agency dealing with at risk children and families. The post holder must have a Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Social Work, Counseling or a related field. Must communicate written and oral information clearly and concisely. Must maintain the confidentiality and security of information. Must build and manage effective partnerships with colleagues, stakeholders and clients. Must be approachable and helpful when dealing with all clients. Must successfully manage changing and conflicting priorities. Must remain focused in a crisis. Must take ownership of work, demonstrate initiative, flexibility and commitment to get things done. Must demonstrate good time management skills.
