The post holder works under the leadership and supervision of the Treatment Coordinator to manage a case load of substance dependent clients (i.e. high-risk individuals, such as offenders, mental health individuals, and individuals with high risk- communicable disease(s)) and provides substance abuse treatment using best practice treatment modalities in a 24-hour residential facility. Responsibilities include providing individual and group counseling, developing and implementing treatment plans, completing pre-admission assessments, monitoring and supervising client's medication(s), and providing aftercare and community support to clients in transitional phases. The Addiction Counsellor will also report on client outcomes, provide direct supervision to clients, assist with statistical data collection, orient new staff, and perform additional duties as requested by the Treatment Coordinator or Clinical Coordinator. They will collaborate with the clinical team and clients to make decisions regarding client eligibility for care and readiness for treatment phases, and can be left in charge of the facility in the absence of the Treatment Coordinator and/or Clinical Coordinator.

Requirements

Minimum of five (5) years of counseling experience with at least three (3) years as a direct treatment provider of alcohol and/or other drug related problems. A Bachelor's Degree relevant in a clinical discipline such as Human Services, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing or a related field. Certification as an Addiction Counsellor with the Bermuda Addiction Certification Board or equivalent international certification. Registration or eligibility to register with the Council for Allied Health Professionals and current certification in CPR, First Aid and Crisis Intervention is required.
