The post holder works under the general direction of the Child Health Coordinator to provide community and clinical based public health nursing services. The post holder will provide community and clinical leadership and guidance for staff in public health competencies and Implement standards of care within the child health services domain. The post is also accountable for the development of innovative, evidence-based health visiting care to include the 0-4 yr old population and the family across the life course. The post holder provides guidance for the delivery of health promotion and health education to the public, target audiences and allied healthcare professionals/external agencies. The post holder collaborates with the Epidemiology/Surveillance Unit in the prevention, control and surveillance of communicable diseases, including outbreaks. Collaborates and provides consultation and advice to social workers (DCFS/Community health), environmental health officers, child care regulation officers, public health nurses, community health workers, physiotherapists, speech language pathologist and other health care providers and maintains effective working relationships. Works autonomously in the community providing expert level of care without direct supervision and conducts nurse led child health clinics in the absence of the Medical Officer. The post holder takes the lead role in managing satellite clinics to include addressing any health & safety issues, transportation of vaccines, supplies and financial instructions. Provides advice on specialist community public health nursing and health behaviour risk reduction. The post holder identifies clients' needs and develops, plans, implements and evaluates programmes of care. The post holder interprets complex information, anticipates potential problems and recommends health interventions to mitigate or manage health outcomes.

Requirements

Post holder must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience relevant to specialist community public health nursing or related public health field, Including one (1) years' experience in a supervisory/leadership capacity. Must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent and be a Registered Nurse (RN). Must hold a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse designation or equivalent and be registered or eligible for registration with the Bermuda Nursing and Midwifery Council. Current CPR certification is mandatory. A Masters of Science Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification would be an asset. A Certificate in Supervisory Management or equivalent would also be an asset. Must possess a valid Bermuda Driver's License.
