Our client, Ascot Underwriting (Bermuda) Limited ("AUB" or "Ascot"), offers a wide range of product solutions including Casualty, Marine & Energy, Property, Specialty Treaty and Facultative, enabling cedents to effectively manage their exposures with innovative solutions and substantial capacity. We invite applications for the role of Head of Risk. This role is responsible for the management of the Enterprise Risk Management ("ERM") framework for all Bermuda based entities of the Ascot Group, including Ascot Bermuda Limited ("ABL") and AUB. Key Duties & Responsibilities include: Responsible for risk related Bermuda regulatory reporting, and supporting group risk related report requirements, including the Group ORSA, Financial Condition Report (FCR) and Recovery Plan. Producing and presenting quarterly risk reports to the relevant Bermuda Committees. Maintaining and developing the risk management framework for the Bermuda based entities of Ascot Group, and ensuring that risk management policies are maintained and in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and/or related regulatory guidance. Supporting the maintenance and development of the risk management framework for Ascot Group including risk identification of emerging risks and preparation of the quarterly risk reporting. Supporting the development, maintenance and reporting of the risk appetite framework, including the articulation of risk tolerances, monitoring against limits, and escalation of breaches to relevant committees. Coordinating the maintenance of the risk register, including risk and control effectiveness reviews, ensuring all key risks are identified, assessed, monitored, escalated and recorded appropriately. Maintaining the risk incident log, working with various stakeholders across the business to ensure risk incidents are promptly captured, appropriately documented and escalated as required. Investigating risk incidents and collaborating with teams to identify areas of improvement. Monitoring of emerging risk and providing summary analysis and reports to relevant Committees. Supporting management of risk across all areas of the business including reputational and sustainability risks. Attending, participating and presenting at various Ascot Committees and working groups. Supporting the completion and/or review of regulatory returns, including the BSCR and annual filings to the Bermuda Monetary Authority. Supporting wider risk activities, including quantitative and qualitative deep dive reviews. Supporting regulatory/compliance projects, internal/external audits and rating agency requests. Liaising with other functions, including Compliance, Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, Claims, Internal Audit, and Exposure Management. Collaborating with the ERM functions of Ascot entities across the global group, to contribute to the wider group ERM objectives. Managing direct reports, including provision of relevant training to enable them to fulfil their duties and to effectively contribute to wider risk objectives. Providing induction and risk management training for Bermuda based employees, as well as attending relevant industry workshops and training. Representing Ascot’s interests in market forums on matters relating to risk management. Maintaining up-to-date understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and best practice.
Requirements
Minimum Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required: 10 years of progressive, relevant risk management experience within the re/insurance industry or in a consulting capacity for re/insurance companies, with at least 5 years at the management level. Working experience, and in-depth knowledge, of the Bermuda Insurance Code of Conduct, Insurance manager and Insurance Agent Code of Conduct, and other applicable regulatory requirements, including BMA ERM related guidance and rules such as Recovery Planning Rules, Climate Change Risk Guidance, Cyber Code of Conduct and Group Supervisory Rules and the practical application of these requirements within the ERM framework. Working experience, and in-depth knowledge, of the ORSA and FCR process, including regulatory expectations under the BMA regime. Working experience, and in-depth knowledge, of re/insurance and risk management principles and methods. Relevant reinsurance or risk management certification is beneficial. Excellent organisational, planning and management skills, including people management. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to produce and present clear and concise reports for Board and Committee consumption. Proficiency in preparing and conducting risk management training. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Familiarity with Workiva is beneficial. Excellent analytical and numerical capabilities, with demonstrated ability to produce high quality work which is both qualitative and quantitative. Must be motivated and diligent, with a proven track record of being a self-starter and working closely with others within a team and cross-functionally.
