Our client, Sompo, is seeking a Senior Vice President, Head of Bermuda Insurance Claims. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervision and management of the Bermuda Claims portfolio. This position reports directly to the EVP Global Head of Insurance Claims. The candidate will work as part of an integrated underwriting-claims team to process, manage, service and support Bermuda claims. Given the nature of this business, the candidate must be willing to work regular and consistent overtime and be in a position to undertake overseas travel on short notice. Essential duties include overseeing the management and operation of the Bermuda Claims department, evaluating exposure and making claim decisions for Fortune 1000 clients, and negotiating high exposure settlements.

Requirements

Law degree and admission to New York state bar and admission to England & Wales required. Minimum 15 years' experience in the legal and/or insurance profession, including practicing as a defense and/or insurance coverage attorney and evaluating, handling and settling complex matters with exposures in excess of $15 million. Minimum 10 years managing and developing teams. Claim management experience must include direct handling of global complex claims with emphasis on United States, United Kingdom, Canadian, Australian and European exposures. Experience and understanding of all aspects of the US legal system, including insurance coverage law and experience with dispute resolution including UK and Bermuda arbitration procedures.
