Reporting to the SVP, Accounting Policy, this position acts as business partner on complex and strategic transactions, maintaining the Bermuda Accounting Policy Manual, assessing the suitability of key transactions for the Bermuda balance sheets, and start building a relationship with the BMA.

Job Responsibilities:

• Support all aspects of Bermuda STAT and SA GAAP accounting policy activities across all business units for the insurance contracts and general accounting transactions of Athene, efficient communication of activity and issues across the organization to all relevant stakeholders
• Analyze strategic and complex transactions related to insurance contracts (i.e., reinsurance deals, mergers & acquisitions, pension risk transfer deals, product development, etc.) and general accounting topics
• Analyze capital impacts for new transactions for the Bermuda balance sheets
• Lead the development, maintenance, and publication of Athene Bermuda’s Accounting Policy Manual across all relevant accounting topic areas
• Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring, and communication of new and emerging accounting guidance developed by the BMA, NAIC, FASB, and the US Treasury across all relevant accounting topic areas
• Recommend changes in the Bermuda Policy Framework and/or deal structures as needed
• Communicate with the regulator on compliance, reporting, and accounting policy matters
• Develop and implement internal training opportunities for the broader Finance organization
• Lead special projects as needed

Qualifications and Experience:

• Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA or equivalent) with a minimum of 7 years’ technical experience in reinsurance
• Thorough understanding of the principles of Bermuda statutory reporting and the application of BMA prudential filters and directions
• Experience in making policy recommendations either through new deal onboarding, or changes in regulations
• Significant experience in Bermuda STAT, EBS, and GAAP reporting frameworks
• Experience researching, resolving, and communicating technical accounting matters
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
