The Cathedral Vestry is seeking a qualified Cathedral Verger to provide support to the cathedral clergy, staff and congregation in the conduct of the ministry of the cathedral and the oversight of liturgical and practical management of the cathedral and its buildings. The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of roles, which would involve working a forty hour week including Sundays, feast days and some public holidays. The Cathedral Verger will be a critical team member, needing to be in sympathy with the ethos and ministry of the Anglican Church and a worshipping member of a local Anglican church willing to become a member of the Cathedral congregation.

Requirements

At least two years in an ecclesiastical, cathedral setting, or historic venue working role (or equivalent sacristan/ceremonial experience). A higher education qualification or relevant vocational training in heritage management, theology, or operations is preferred. Certification qualification in the Church of England Vergers' Guild. A thorough understanding of Christian liturgy, church traditions, and the liturgical calendar. Training in manual handling practices/risks, physical security, and health & safety compliance. Ability to stand for long periods, walk substantial distances, and carry heavy ceremonial equipment.
