Reinsurance Data Engineer - Timextender Specialist

The Reinsurance Data Engineer - TimeXtender Specialist will report to the Head of Underwriting Operations and will work with the broader technology, operations and underwriting operations teams to ensure the efficient implementation and use of technology-enabled reinsurance solutions for operational efficiency.
Duties and responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable cloud-native data pipelines (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Data Warehouse).
Architect and optimize data warehouses using TimeXtender's low-code framework, including dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas).
Develop ETL/ELT workflows with TimeXtender for ingestion, transformation, and loading.
Automate repetitive tasks (e.g., data cleansing, scheduling) via TimeXtender's Task Hub.
Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks (indexing, query optimization) in TimeXtender workflows.
Manage TimeXtender projects (data discovery, staging, semantic layers, deployment) and version upgrades.
Ensure data governance, lineage tracking, and quality assurance across pipelines.
Transform and validate data to meet business, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Build enterprise semantic layers to support analytics and self-service reporting.
Integrate structured/unstructured data (SQL Server, APIs, flat files) and connect TimeXtender outputs to Bl tools.
Partner with Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, and third parties to deliver trusted, actionable data.
Translate business requirements into technical solutions through cross-functional collaboration.
Maintain clear documentation (data architecture, flows, processes, controls).
Continuously optimize data processing, storage, and reporting performance.
Qualifications and experience
5+ years in data engineering or analytics, preferably in (re)insurance/financial services.
2+ years of hands-on experience with TimeXtender or similar tools.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, and Power Bl.
Strong skills in SQL/T-SQL, data modeling, and ETL processes.
Experience with TimeXtender ODX, MDW, and semantic layers.
Experience working with Microsoft Fabric, including components like Data Factory, Power BI and OneLake.
Strong understanding of reinsurance structures and terminology would be an advantage.
Working knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery ("CI/CD") pipelines, version control and DevOps practices.
Understanding of data governance, metadata, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strategic leader with expertise in aligning technology, data and change management strategies with organizational objectives.
Strong understanding of reinsurance data workflows.
Good organisational skills with the ability to achieve results under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e., business, finance, or accounting) or equivalent.
Professional accounting designation (i.e., CPA, ACA)
Possession of, or active pursuit of a relevant professional designation in re/insurance or operations (i.e. CPCU/ARe) would be an asset.
Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in re/insurance audit or direct industry experience
For non-accounting professionals, minimum 5 years reinsurance experience in a similar role
Working knowledge of reinsurance contract structures and market practices across property, specialty and casualty lines of business
Proven proficiency in understanding data flows and associated accounting considerations
Experience contributing to Policy Administration System (PAS) User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
Excellent attention to detail with high standards for accuracy and completeness.
Strong analytical skills with strategic thinking capabilities
Advanced MS Office skills, particularly Excel, Power BI and Power Query
Collaborative approach when working with colleagues at all levels
Ability to adapt effectively to change
Project management and process review skills would be an asset
