Senior Underwriter, Professional Liability

Markel Bermuda Limited, a subsidiary of Markel Group, has an opening for Senior Underwriter, Professional Liability in the Company’s Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance underwriting team. This role will develop new and renewal business in accordance with underwriting authority grant and underwriting guidelines. The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines, and drive projects having an impact on the business. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Promotes the growth and development of less experienced underwriters and fosters teamwork. Key Duties and Responsibilities include underwriting and servicing a portfolio which includes E&O, EPL, ML coverages for professional service firms (primarily law firms, accounting firms, and consulting firms) as well as cyber, negotiating with brokers on program structure, and maintaining a familiar knowledge of economic and legal events impacting the portfolio.

Requirements

5 years’ experience in professional liability; a recent focus on E&O, EPL, ML and/or cyber product lines strongly preferred. Experience with industry accepted policy forms and working knowledge of applicable wordings. Bachelor’s degree required. Desire and ability to enhance Markel’s position in the Bermuda professional liability marketplace through external engagement and a strong customer service focus. Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate while developing positive broker relationships. Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent problem solving/decision making abilities. Strong work ethic. Must be a team player and able to work independently as needed.
