The Ward Orderly will work under the supervision of an assigned Staff Nurse and perform related duties necessary in caring for the personal needs, comforts, and safety of the patients. Key responsibilities include: Supports the policies and procedures of the Bermuda Hospitals Board (B.H.B.) and maintains the standards of nursing practices; Attends to and assist with activities of daily living i.e. feeding, bathing, grooming, toileting, and mobilizing; Assist with providing comfort measures and ensure patient safety; Observe and report patients' symptoms, reactions, and progress; Takes and record temperatures, pulse, and respirations; Records intake and output; Administers evacuation enemas and evacuatory suppositories; Gives bed pans and urinals; Tests routine and diabetic urine and collects specimens for diagnostic tests; Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, care of the deceased and transportation of the bodies to the morgue; Makes open, closed, and occupied beds; Performs shaves/skin preps for surgical patients; Performs urinary catheter care for male patients, perineal care, and application of Texas catheter.
