The BHB laboratory is a comprehensive facility located within the hospital offering the following 5 disciplines Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Services (including an onsite Blood Donor Center) and Anatomic Pathology (Histology/Cytology/ Mortuary services). MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTS CORE LAB (HEMATOLOGY/ CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY/TRANSUFION) The Medical Technologist Generalist-Core Lab is responsible for clinical laboratory analyses of specimens in Hematology, Clinical Biochemistry and Transfusion Services. Rotates through the Core lab with special emphasis on Transfusion Services. Operates and maintains the department's automated equipment eg. Chemistry and Hematology analyzers. Performs calibrations and quality control on all the Core lab equipment. Requirements: BSC Degree in Medical Laboratory Services, Higher National Certification with emphasis on training in Transfusion Experience on a similar rotation schedule is preferred ASCP, HPC, CSMLS registered or equivalent 2-5 years post qualification generalist experience in Hematology, Clinical Biochemistry and Transfusion MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTS - MICROBIOLOGY The Medical Technologist-Microbiology is responsible for analyzing all types of microbiology specimens and must have good practical experience in parasitology, mycology, serology and mycobacteria set- up and culture. Experience with automated microbiology equipment eg. Vitek. A minimum of 2 years of plate reading experience. Requirements: BSc Degree in Medical Laboratory Services, Higher National Certification with additional training in Microbiology ASCP, HPC, CSMLS registered or equivalent Minimum of 2 years post graduate clinical experience in Microbiology MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTS-CYTOLOGY The Medical Technologist-Cytology is responsible for diagnostic evaluation of gynecological and non-gynecological preparation to detect evidence of pathogens, pre-cancerous, cancerous and other pathological conditions while adhering to the policies and procedures set within the Cytology department. Requirements: BSc Degree in Medical Technology, Higher National Certification with additional training and certification in Cytology ASCP, HPC, CSMLS registered or equivalent Minimum of 2 years post graduate clinical experience in cytology MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTS - HISTOLOGY The Medical Technologist-Histology is responsible for processing, embedding and sectioning surgical, autopsy, cell block, bone marrow and trephine biopsy specimens. Assists Pathologist with cutting and dictation of surgical specimens. Performs routine, special and immunohistochemical stains. Requirements: BSc Degree in Medical Technology, Higher National Certification with additional training and certification in Histology ASCP, HPC or CSMLS registered or equivalent Minimum of 2 year post graduate clinical experience in histology
