Under the direction of the HIMS Specialist Manager, the HIMS Specialist provides timely processing of patient records within Bermuda Hospitals Board's Revenue Cycle and Medical record Systems This includes but is not limited to deficiency management and indexing, prepping, scanning, data integrity auditing, release of records, record retention, queue and work assignments, compliance with associated policies, procedures, and legislation. Key responsibilities include: Process all documents according to procedures; receive, sort and scan Identifies documents needing to be re-scanned due to poor image quality and routes those documents to the appropriate work queue for processing Analyses and assigns chart deficiencies to the appropriate provider(s) based on Bermuda Hospitals Board's policies and procedures as well as the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) guidelines Process death document requests and birth registrations in accordance with policies and procedures Responsible for completion and verification of all medical record requests, including police reports, as per policies and procedures, liaising with Legal Counsel as required Adheres to established Bermuda Hospitals Board's standards/policies and system workflow guidelines to add and re-assign accounts to appropriate work queues for processing Recognizes and understands Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) as they apply to the release and distribution of protected health information Qualifications &/ Registration required: Four (4) years of practical experience in Health Information Management Service or related field / environment A proven understanding of chart navigation and chart documentation Knowledge of Cerner Millennium / Pearl, 3M Systems would be an asset Sound knowledge of applicable PIPA regulations/legislation Accuracy in retrieving the medical records and the subsequent re-filing of medical records in correct order➤ The "Apply Now" Button: If visible, this link redirects you to an external website (not BermudaJobFinder) which may require you to create an account.
