Key responsibilities include: provides first line crisis intervention service, assesses clients' mental, physical and emotional needs, and refers to the doctor when required. Collaborate with clients, family and multidisciplinary team members to develop plan of treatment for clients. Ensures that referrals are screened and assessed appropriately and determines the degree of urgency. Provides mental health liaison and support services for clients and their families. Attends and participates in ward rounds, participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings with Community Mental Health services and the inpatient units, attends family meetings to establish comprehensive treatment plans inclusive of discharge planning, including client and family in the treatment planning process. Conducts home assessments and arranges hospital admissions when necessary and adheres to legal requirements of the Bermuda Mental Health Act. Sharing the responsibility for ordering, dispensing, and administering medications, ensuring safety of medications. Conforming to best practice standards of nursing by demonstrating appropriate knowledge, principles, methods and techniques. Promotes mental health education to consumers and the public. Provides a 24-hour on-call' service for psychiatric emergencies in the community. Supervises junior nurse personnel and acts as preceptor. Assists in providing performance appraisals as well as clinical supervision for the Community Psychiatric Nurses.
