Under the direction of the Chief of Pathology, the Chemical Pathologist delivers expert diagnostic services in Chemical Pathology, supports both laboratory and clinical teams in patient care and decision-making, and contributes to the ongoing development, quality improvement, and clinical governance of the Pathology Department.
Key responsibilities include:
Clinical Consultation and Diagnostic Expertise
Provide expert interpretation and validation of biochemical test results, along with clinical advice to support diagnosis and treatment planning. Act as a clinical liaison for BHB and community physicians, advising on appropriate test selection, result interpretation, and patient management
Service Leadership and Strategic Development
Lead and develop services in Chemical Pathology to meet evolving clinical needs and standards of care. Contribute to service planning, innovation, and development initiatives within the Pathology Department
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
Responsible for quality assurance within the Chemical Pathology Unit, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements
Laboratory Oversight and Technical Operations
Provide clinical oversight and supervision of the Chemical Pathology Laboratory, as appropriate.. Lead the evaluation and introduction of new testing methodologies and ensure changes to laboratory processes do not compromise result integrity.
Qualifications &/ Registration required:
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, or a related field, or
Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists (MRCPath) in Chemical Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or Biochemistry, or an equivalent qualification; along with
Board Certification in Chemical Pathology (or equivalent recognized certification)
A minimum of five (5) years of post-graduate experience in Chemical or Clinical Pathology, with demonstrated competence in the field
Extensive diagnostic experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting
