Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Vice President, Associate General Counsel to join our Legal team. This role serves as the primary legal advisor supporting Sompo International’s (re)insurance operations in Bermuda and provides strategic legal counsel on corporate, regulatory, governance, underwriting, transactional, and operational matters while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The position also supports board and committee governance activities for Bermuda legal entities and works closely with legal & compliance colleagues, business, risk, finance, and executive stakeholders throughout the organization.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (JD), LLB, or equivalent law degree. Qualified lawyer admitted in a recognized jurisdiction. Significant post-qualification legal experience, preferably within the insurance, reinsurance, financial services, or corporate sectors. Experience advising senior executives and boards of directors. Experience supporting regulated entities and complex international organizations. Strong knowledge of P&C (re)insurance, corporate governance, and regulatory matters. Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills. Ability to provide clear, commercially focused legal advice. Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced global environment. Sound judgment, integrity, and professional discretion. Strategic thinking and business acumen. Collaborative and inclusive leadership style. Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Ability to influence effectively across functions and geographies. Commitment to ethical conduct and regulatory compliance.
