Since 1888, Saltus Grammar School has been a leader in independent school education in Bermuda. Today we are a fully co-educational school serving students aged 4–18. From our Reggio-inspired programme for our youngest learners to the dynamic opportunities available in our Secondary School, Saltus is a place where tradition and innovation meet.The successful candidate will bring experience teaching English at the Middle and Senior School levels, with the breadth of expertise to teach Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition and Advanced Placement English Language and Composition, as well as the British Columbia English Language Arts curriculum from Grades 6–12.In addition to teaching English, the successful candidate will also teach Career Studies (Grades 10 and 12), supporting students in developing self-awareness, career exploration, and life-planning skills through the BC Career-Life Education framework.Key Responsibilities:Deliver instruction in English Language Arts across Grades 6–12, including Advanced Placement courses as required.Design and deliver engaging, student-centred learning experiences that foster curiosity, creativity, and deep understanding of literature and language.Guide students in critical reading, analytical writing, literary interpretation, and research skills.Prepare students for Advanced Placement examinations and post-secondary study.Design rigorous, inquiry-based learning experiences and assessments using diverse literary texts and contemporary perspectives.Foster student agency, collaboration, communication, and reflection through purposeful learning design.Support responsible and thoughtful use of technology and AI-enabled tools in learning.Teach Career Studies in Grades 10 and 12 as part of the BC Career-Life Education programme.Support students in developing:self-awareness and reflectioncareer exploration and goal settingunderstanding of post-secondary pathwaysresponsible digital identity and personal profilesdecision-making related to future education and career opportunities.Guide students in understanding how personal strengths, interests, and external influences shape career-life decisions.Facilitate reflective learning activities and portfolio development that support career-life planning.Encourage students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences and community opportunities.Collaborate with the University Guidance Counselors to coordinate experiential and community-connected learning opportunities related to the BC Career-Life Education programme, including guest speakers, career exploration events, mentorship connections, and partnerships that extend student learning beyond the classroom.

Requirements

The successful candidate will demonstrate:A Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or a related field, along with teacher education credentials.Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience at the middle and/or senior school level.Experience teaching senior-level English, with Advanced Placement English experience considered an asset.Familiarity with or willingness to implement the British Columbia curriculum.Understanding of the BC Career-Life Education framework.Eligibility for certification with the Bermuda Educators Council.Certification or eligibility for British Columbia Teacher Certification.Ability to provide a learning environment in which individual learners thrive within a differentiated and motivating programme.Ability to design and deliver creative, innovative, student-centred instruction.Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching pedagogies within an inquiry-based programme, including project-based and problem-based learning.Experience using varied assessment and evaluation practices, including student-led conferences and online reporting systems.Commitment to ongoing professional learning and reflective practice.Strong collaboration and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families.Professional discretion and the ability to manage confidential information with care and tact.Demonstrated alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Strategic Vision of Saltus Grammar School.Commitment to contributing to the co-curricular life of the school.A clean criminal record.First Aid/CPR/AED and SCARS certification are considered assets.
