The VP, Claims Manager is responsible for, but not limited to overseeing the analysis, and processing of claims under the applicable (re)insurance contracts, performing claims audits, providing analysis to underwriters and reserving actuaries, and lead collaborative projects in support of other areas of the company, including finance, actuarial, operations and technology. This role will lead with the preparation of management reporting on respective claims activities. In addition, the VP, Claims Manager works with the Underwriters on any claims related interactions with cedents and brokers. Responsible for the ongoing management and development of a team of professionals.Principal Accountabilities:Actively handles claims arising from a variety of classes of business including Casualty, Specialty and Property, with a focus on highly complex matters. Investigates, handles and seeks to resolve all claims in accordance with company standards and procedures. Prioritises relationships with key brokers and internal and external stakeholders. Oversight of claims systems, ensuring they are kept up to date in a timely manner by team members. Seeks to modify and improve processes where required. Promotes compliance with best practice for all aspects of claims management. Shares relevant industry/business knowledge to develop (re)insurance knowledge within team. Leads claims participation in renewal meetings with Underwriters as required. Provides feedback to Underwriters from a Claims perspective. Participates in client visits and audits. Represents the company at market meetings and on market committees and actively seek out professional development opportunities. Ensures all handled claims are properly processed and reserved. Ensures alignment and compliance with Global reserving practices and strategy. Leads claims audits. Evaluates trains, advises, and mentors the claims staff and providing technical expertise to the claims and underwriting process that will enable underwriters and actuaries to better assess and rate their contracts and submissions. Contributes to senior claims leadership team and gains buy-in for global initiatives and strategic discussions.Strategic Projects:Seeks outs and explores new opportunities for process improvement and enhancement at the global level and propose solutions to improve the efficiency of the functional area. Leads large global projects and important initiatives and workstreams specific to large global projects across multiple departments.Team Oversight:Manages and oversees your team of professionals and ensure appropriate guidance and career development is provided. Delegates workflow and tasks as appropriate across the team. Monitors resource needs, ensure staffing levels are appropriate, provide support to the team on a local basis, ensure appropriate work-life balance is achieved and maintained, provide appropriate career development opportunities.Facilitates the flow of information up, down and across organization, and encourages the sharing of ideas/information within work teams and across business units of functions. Speaks and writes effectively to influence others and gain buy-in for ideas/solutions. Partners effectively with individuals within and outside immediate work team to accomplish objectives. Encourages and models cross-business unit or business unit/functional collaboration and knowledge-sharing across work teams. Develops, in advance, innovative solutions to capitalise on opportunities and solve problems. Makes connections between the past, present and future, and demonstrates forward thinking by anticipating business opportunities and challenges. Managing a team, recruits and selects the right people for the right jobs; provides ongoing, quality feedback to foster skill development and inspire high performance; and addresses performance issues in a direct, timely and respectful way. Engages frequently with client/stakeholders to accurately identify their evolving needs, priorities and concerns, and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure expectations are consistently met and/or exceeded. Prioritises external and internal client/stakeholder needs and ensures resources, activities and behaviours are focused on achieving satisfaction and providing value. Applies knowledge globally. Experience communicating at the C-Suite and Board level. Proficiency in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, SCIS etc.) Strong knowledge of US GAAP, other relevant GAAP or regulatory reporting requirements as applicable. Experience with public companies, SEC reporting and SOX 404 is required. Strong background in business process reviews and analysis, finance systems and internal controls.

Requirements

Expected Competencies:A university degree is required preferably with an emphasis on business, finance or law; an advanced degree is advantageous. A professional qualification required (such as ACII/CPCU/AIC/ARE).At least 7-10 years prior relevant industry experience with at least 4 years in a senior position. Proven practice managing a team of professionals and technicians. Proactively shares relevant industry/business knowledge and information across the company. Continually assesses work methods, processes and outcomes to drive improvement and/or business growth. Manages resources proactively and effectively, and leverages all available information, people and technology to deliver results.Additional requirements:Candidates are required to have detailed knowledge and experience of claims handling processes and practices, in addition to having a detailed understanding of the legal landscape relevant to their jurisdiction. In addition, candidates are required to have detailed knowledge and understanding both of technical claims matters and legal aspects for those jurisdictions where it anticipated claims will arise (US/Continental Europe/UK/Asia Pacific - dependent upon role location).This is a fast-paced business environment, demanding a strong work ethic and a results-oriented approach.
