Compliance Manager (bermuda)

The Compliance Manager (Bermuda) will serve as the local Compliance Officer in accordance with Bermuda law and regulatory standards, including the requirements of the Bermuda Monetary Authority and applicable AML/ATF, sanctions, and enterprise risk management frameworks. The role provides expert, hands on compliance oversight across legal, trust, corporate services and client accounting operations, and acts as a primary liaison with regulators and external stakeholders. This position does not include management of a team. This role is suited to an experienced compliance professional with strong Bermuda regulatory knowledge and the judgment to operate as a trusted advisor to the business. The position requires independent execution, cross functional functional coordination, and the ability to to translate regulatory requirements into practical, business ready solutions.. Act as the designated local Compliance Officer for Conyers' Bermuda regulated entities, maintaining oversight of compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with Bermuda Monetary Authority expectations and relevant legislation and guidance. Lead information requests from external regulators, competent authorities and approved third party vendors, ensuring completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and appropriate data handling. Serve as primary regulator, and internal auditor liaison, for day to day supervisory interactions, onsite or thematic reviews, routine and ad hoc queries, follow up actions, prudential or AML/ATF reporting, and remediation updates, escalating issues and evidencing credible challenge where appropriate. Assist with the end to end KYC/CDD processes for new and existing clients across legal, trust, corporate services, and client accounting lines. Oversee regulatory change management, assessing impact on all Bermuda regulated entities and services, and implementing timely updates to policies, procedures, risk assessments, and control testing. Provide business advisory support to fee earners, administrators, corporate services professionals and client accounting teams on Financial Crime Compliance, Regulatory Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management frameworks, documenting advice, and rationale. Prepare, maintain, and deliver clear, concise compliance reporting for Chief Compliance Officer, covering key risk indicators, regulatory developments, open issues, and remediation status. Support and recommend training and testing tailored to Bermuda legal and regulatory requirements for relevant personnel, including periodic refresher and role specific training. Contribute to or prepare required regulatory submissions and notifications, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and, where applicable, the MLRO and other designated officers. Conduct comprehensive gap analyses of existing policies, procedures, and controls to ensure alignment with Bermuda's regulatory requirements and international standards. Execute ad hoc compliance projects and process improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency and client service while maintaining robust control standards. Undergraduate degree and a relevant compliance or risk certification such as CAMS, ICA or equivalent. A minimum of five years of experience in compliance within financial or professional services, with demonstrable exposure to Bermuda regulatory requirements and interaction with the Bermuda Monetary Authority. Strong working knowledge of compliance obligations applicable to legal practices, trust companies, corporate service providers, and client accounting, including AML/ATF, sanctions, anti bribery, and corruption. Proven capability in KYC/CDD execution and oversight, including enhanced due diligence, complex ownership structures, private wealth and corporate clients, higher risk geographies, and cross border matters. Experience in regulatory liaison, supervisory engagement, responding to regulatory or vendor due diligence requests, and managing remediation to closure. Experience in internal audit function would be an asset. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distil complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance for non specialists and to engage credibly with senior stakeholders and regulators. Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem solving abilities, with sound judgment and the confidence to provide clear, defensible recommendations. Advanced organization and planning skills, with meticulous attention to detail, data integrity, and deadline management in a high volume environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with key stakeholders and all levels of Management and Staff Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with familiarity in compliance and screening tools; curiosity about technology and process automation to drive efficiency. High integrity, discretion, and professional ethics, with the resilience to work independently under pressure and maintain confidentiality of client and firm information.
