Vp, Head Of Claims - Bermuda

The VP, Head of Claims - Bermuda is responsible for, but not limited to the oversight and management of the claims platform including: coverage analysis, adjustment, settlement and reporting; liaison with counsel; and, coordination, oversight and participation in claims reviews/audits. This role is also responsible for managing and leading the claims team in the day-to-day claims handling and processing activities, strategic planning, talent development and coordination with other global platforms and management reporting. Responsibilities Include: Manage all claims activities including adjustment, reserving and settlement practices in addition to overseeing claim reporting and management of claim audit processes Prioritise relationships with key brokers and internal and external stakeholders including participation in client visits and audits as required Represent the company at market meetings and on market committees and actively seek out professional development opportunities Manage and monitor claims in litigation (coverage or otherwise) and liaise with internal and external counsel, as necessary Communicate with claims professionals in other RenaissanceRe offices as necessary to address trends and ensure consistency of approach and application of claims philosophy Responsible for development of management reporting information for quarterly claims team meetings to review quarterly movements, update on disputed/watch list claims, review of completed and upcoming audits and resources Oversee the development and enhancement of relevant claims systems Maintain a strong internal control environment and consistency of SOX processes (where possible and applicable) Contribute to senior leadership team and gains buy-in for global initiatives and strategic discussions Strategic Projects Seeks outs and explores new opportunities for process improvement and enhancement at the local/global level and propose solutions to improve the efficiency of the functional area Lead large local/global projects and important initiatives and workstreams specific to large local/global projects across multiple departments Team Oversight Train and develop team in all aspects of claims handling, auditing and processing Manage and oversee your team of professionals and ensure appropriate guidance and career development is provided Monitor resource needs, ensure staffing levels are appropriate, provide support to the team on a local basis, ensure appropriate work-life balance is achieved and maintained, provide appropriate career development opportunities Qualifications, Skills & Experience: A university degree is required with an emphasis on business, finance or law; an advanced degree is advantageous A professional Claims/Underwriting designation required (e.g. ACII/CPCU/AIC/ARe) A minimum of 8 years' prior relevant industry experience across multiple classes of business including advanced knowledge of both insurance and reinsurance principles A minimum of 4 years' proven practice managing a team of professionals and technicians, leveraging all available information, people and technology to deliver results Proven track record of driving improvement and/or business growth Proactively develops innovative solutions to capitalise on opportunities and solve problems Proven experience communicating at the C-Suite and Board level Proficiency in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, SICS etc.) including advance excel skills Strong knowledge of US GAAP, other relevant GAAP or regulatory reporting requirements as applicable Experience with public companies, SEC reporting and SOX 404 is required This is a fast-paced business environment, demanding a strong work ethic and a results-oriented approach.
