The D. E. Shaw group seeks a talented, highly motivated individual to join its Reinsurance team in Bermuda, focusing on underwriting and managing catastrophe risk. As part of a lean, entrepreneurial team investing across a variety of classes, this role will contribute to the growth and success of the firm's reinsurance business, while playing a key part in shaping the team's strategic direction and driving innovative solutions in the catastrophe risk space. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals and industry leaders in a collegial and engaging work environment. WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY: • Maintain and actively manage a portfolio of catastrophe risk, supporting the team's expansion through sourcing and executing new opportunities. • Drive optimal portfolio results by overseeing documentation, product development, and pricing strategies. • Strengthen and build relationships with clients and brokers, developing actionable strategies and plans, and serving as a thought leader on market, business, and technical developments. Leverage your expertise to structure a range of reinsurance transactions, including industry loss warranties and CAT bonds, and contribute to the team's ongoing success. WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR: • A bachelor's degree is required, along with at least fifteen years of work experience in the reinsurance industry. • Excellent analytical skills, including a keen understanding of statistical and probabilistic methods used in reinsurance, as well as investment acumen and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, with impressive written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach. In-depth knowledge of structuring various reinsurance transactions, including industry loss warranties and CAT bonds, as well as expertise in both primary property CAT and retro. In-depth understanding of the language used in reinsurance contracts, with the ability to interpret the impact to the coverage of a reinsurance transaction. Significant experience in claims reserving. Established relationships with senior brokers and detailed knowledge of pricing models is required. The D. E. Requirements
