Our client, Nephila, are asset managers with an insurance twist - we manage $8 billion of catastrophe and climate related insurance-linked securities (ILS). At Nephila, we like to shake up the status quo. We were pioneers in offering alternative funding to the reinsurance industry and were also the first to introduce a strategy specifically for managing climate-related risks. We have offices in Bermuda, London and Nashville. We are looking for an experienced Technical Underwriter to drive pricing strategy, pricing model development and deal analysis across our Property Catastrophe business. This is a hands-on role that will play an integral part in supporting the development and growth of prospective deal flow in both insurance and reinsurance transactions from a structuring and execution perspective. In this high-impact position, reporting directly to the Head of Underwriting, you will get exposure to senior stakeholders and have the opportunity to shape strategy at both the account and portfolio level. Duties & Responsibilities: Provide expert technical underwriting guidance and pricing analysis/ insights to Underwriters, identifying creative solutions for complex deals and trades. Apply sound judgement, market knowledge, and forecasting skills to achieve optimal outcomes and lead strategic decision-making. Develop pricing models and implement risk appetite changes based on relevant internal and market data. Enhance the company's proprietary loss and pricing models by leveraging expertise in underwriting and risk assessment. Lead initiatives that influence the development of technical underwriting decisions, guidelines, and best practices, controls and procedures. Work cross-functionally with underwriting, modelling/research and portfolio team to analyze and price risks in support of building high-quality portfolios. Act as a subject matter expert to develop underwriting technical training content for other members of the team. Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Experience: Qualified Actuary with 5+ years of experience in insurance or (re)insurance pricing/ underwriting. Strong technical skills in pricing model development and portfolio analysis/optimization. Proficiency in tools such as Verisk, SQL, Python, simulation tools (e.g Remetrica) and Microsoft Suite - particularly MS Excel. A logical and analytical thinker with the ability to simplify and communicate complex concepts to non technical audiences. Comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership, and making informed recommendations. Experience negotiating with internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to analyze complex, ambiguous deals and price them according to the company's risk appetite. Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment as part of a high performing team. Demonstrated commercial acumen, balancing technical expertise with an understanding of broader business factors and market dynamics.
