Chubb Bermuda invites applications for the position of Vice Vice President, Claims & Claims Counsel. With operations in 54 countries, Chubb is one of the world's largest multi-line property and casualty insurers.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Initial substantive analysis of new excess liability claims and supervision of the accurate entry of claim and policy information
Distributing new excess liability claims to claim handlers
Monitoring the work loads of excess liability claims to claim handlers
Monitoring the work loads of excess liability claim handlers to ensure both that work is distributed equitably and efficiently, and that acknowledgement letters and assertions of policy defenses are timely
Performing detailed, substantive, ongoing analysis of significant, novel and/or challenging claims
Working closely with outside and in-house counsel to protect Chubb's contractual rights under its policies
Performing legal analysis in respect of underlying exposures and coverage under a variety of Excess Liability policy forms
Providing guidance to junior claim handlers
Communicating with underwriters regarding claim developments
The successful applicant must possess:
A law degree from an accredited U.S. law school and admission to bar of at least one state (preferably New York)
An understanding of the U.S. tort system and insurance-coverage principles, particularly New York law with respect to Bermuda and Excess Liability coverage, and commercial casualty insurance generally
At least ten years total full-time insurance-industry experience analysing, managing, negotiating and resolving complex, commercial casualty claims, including, employment as either a claims professional or in-house counsel advising claims professionals; or as outside counsel representing commercial casualty insurers/reinsurers with respect to complex coverage analysis, litigation and/or arbitrations
Superior analytical, oral and written communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills;
The ability to foster a culture of collaboration, and individual and organisational excellence
