This is a newly created Senior Claims leadership role within a Bermuda-based reinsurance start-up. Cedar Trace Group is an asset manager and provider of reinsurance solutions through ILS, and acts as a service company to Mereo Insurance. The Sr. Claims Manager will be responsible for owning, improving, and implementing the Claims function for Mereo Insurance. Reporting directly to the Mereo COO, the role carries full accountability, authority, and strategic responsibility for the Claims function. This position is suited to an operations minded individual who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and is motivated by building frameworks, teams, and sustainable processes rather than running an established framework and system. Key Responsibilities: • Manage and continuously improve the Claims function for Mereo. • Monitor and manage daily claims activities across casualty, specialty and property treaty classes of business. • Evaluate and approve payment for claims within designated claims paying authority. • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement both within and outside of the claims function. • Establish and monitor performance against claims KPIs. • Review, approve and monitor outstanding LOCs to ensure these accurately reflect outstanding liabilities. • Work extensively with the Chief Actuary and Actuarial team in all claims matters, with particular emphasis on providing accurate claim data for reporting and reserving. • Work closely with the CFO and Finance function with regard to claims financial management. • Coordinate closely with the CUO and underwriting team in all claims matters. • Work with outwards reinsurance in establishing the coverage, extent, notification and collection of ceded recoveries on a timely basis. • Compile and distribute monthly reinsurance claims report discussing group estimates and development of large and complex claims. • Perform claims audits in Bermuda or evaluate third party claims audits for non-Bermuda based cedants. • Ensure compliance with all internal controls, processes and reporting requirements. Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Experience: • 10+ years of experience in claims and the (re)insurance industry. • Extensive claims management experience with a focus on treaty reinsurance. Strong technical competency and expertise in P&C lines; a desire for excellence and high personal standards. • Prior experience in a start-up or working with an organization that switched to a new system and was part of a new build. • Expertise with reinsurance contractual terms and structures. Knowledge of both Bermuda and Lloyd's marketplace preferred. • Willingness to take responsibility and accountability. • The ability to drive and implement change. • Demonstrated commitment to customer service. • Extensive practical experience with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Access and Word. • Working knowledge of data analytics software. Preferably Power BI. • Proficiency in one or more claims management systems used in reinsurance.
