Chief Sales & Marketing Officer (csmo)

The Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) is recruiting a Chief Sales & Marketing Officer (CSMO). Established in 2014, the BTA is the official Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for the island with a mandate to grow the tourism economy and promote Bermuda globally as a world- class destination for travel and tourism investment. The CSMO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and leads a multidisciplinary team across sales, brand strategy, digital marketing, partnerships, and public relations. Success in the CSMO role requires a results-driven, visionary marketing and sales leader with a proven track record of destination marketing success, deep industry expertise, and an entrepreneurial mindset. The CSMO must also be a strategic communicator, able to foster collaborative stakeholder relationships and lead performance-driven campaigns. Key responsibilities include: Develop and execute integrated global marketing and sales strategies aligned with the National Tourism Plan, market trends, and customer insights. Lead global brand development and oversee compelling, consistent campaigns to build Bermuda's visibility and demand. Champion a digital-first approach, leveraging content, social media, SEO/SEM, CRM, and analytics to drive engagement and conversion. Direct global sales strategy and market development, targeting high-value leisure, luxury, business, and group segments. Secure strategic partnerships with airlines, travel trade, hospitality providers, and event organizers to stimulate demand. Represent Bermuda at trade shows, industry missions, and high-level meetings to grow market share. Oversee the Experiences Division, including leadership of the Director of Experiences, ensuring initiatives increase visitor satisfaction, spend, and destination reputation. Guide the development, promotion, and optimization of on-island experiences, including the Bermuda Visitor Services Centres, and champion ROI-driven investments. Build and sustain strong relationships with stakeholders, industry partners, and government to ensure alignment on shared goals. Negotiate sponsorships, trade agreements, and cooperative marketing programs to create mutual value. Apply data-driven decision making to refine strategies, measure ROI, and respond to changing market conditions. Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing, diverse team, fostering innovation, collaboration, and accountability. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum 10 years' senior executive experience leading high-performing marketing and sales teams with a track record of delivering results. Proven expertise in destination marketing, brand management, and strategic sales across multiple market segments. Strong understanding of tourism industry trends, competitive markets, and global travel trade. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, agency relationships, and complex projects to achieve strategic objectives. Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders. Experience with data-driven decision making and measuring ROI from marketing and sales investments. Proven industry sales experience across multiple sectors, including convention and visitors' bureaus, major hotel management company or association related business, meetings/conferences and travel trade markets A strong strategic and business mindset with proven experience developing, enhancing, and marketing a jurisdiction's brand as well as the ability to work tactically with demonstrable problem solving, project management, and creative skills Flexibility to travel extensively as required EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; MBA or equivalent Relevant industry qualification such as the CMP or CDME.
