Team Lead, Intellectual Property

The Team Lead, Intellectual Property, is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the intellectual property (IP) administrative team. This role involves both management and supervision of IP administrators and requires the Team Lead to collaborate closely with the IP lawyer or work independently as necessary. Reporting directly to the IP Lawyer, the Team Lead is accountable for managing the entire process of trademark prosecution, from the initial application through to registration and ongoing post-registration maintenance. What You'll Do Manage departmental activities and supervise the administrative staff, providing direction for all job-related responsibilities. Serve as the primary relationship manager for clients, ensuring timely and excellent service delivery. Advise clients on intellectual property filing requirements, available options, and filing strategies. This includes reviewing and commenting on client-provided information and documents, arranging registry searches, and advising clients on the results of those searches. Draft and file both new trademark applications and applications for post-registration maintenance. Monitor and track the progress of all applications, maintaining communication with both the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and clients ents throughout each stage of the process. Review and advise clients on objections raised in trademark examination reports, and draft and file responses in accordance with clients' instructions. Track pending matters and ensure timely follow-up on all outstanding items. Prepare invoices and coordinate with clients and the accounts department regarding billing issues. Stay informed of legislative changes, updates to IPO practices, requirements, and government fees. Adapt internal processes as needed and update precedent documents and fee schedules to reflect these changes. Keep clients informed of significant changes in Bermuda intellectual property law and IPO practices that may impact them. What You'll Need Paralegal certification or undergraduate degree or equivalent experience Working knowledge and solid understanding of Bermuda trademark law and procedures is preferred. Demonstrated strong analytical, communication, and supervisory skills. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities. Commercial awareness and a practical, measured approach to problem-solving. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Experience in working to tight deadlines and meeting demanding client obligations.
