The Bermuda Industrial Union (BIU) is seeking an experienced legal professional to serve as Employment Lawyer (Union Counsel). This is a unique opportunity to establish the union's in-house legal function and play a key role in protecting workers' rights, strengthening collective bargaining, providing strategic legal counsel, and enhancing the union's long-term legal and organizational capacity. Key responsibilities include serving as the union's principal legal advisor, representing the union before the Labour Department and courts, providing advice on grievances and collective bargaining, and delivering legal education workshops.
Requirements
Admission to practice law in Bermuda. 5-7 years' post-qualification experience in employment law, labour law, industrial relations, dispute resolution, or a related field is preferred. Demonstrated experience in grievance arbitration, labour disputes, collective bargaining, tribunal representation, or civil litigation. Strong advocacy, negotiation, legal research, analytical, and drafting skills. Experience working with trade unions or labour organizations is strongly preferred.
