The Phlebotomist reports directly to the Senior of Support Services and is responsible for providing a high quality phlebotomy service for clients in a safe and effective manner. He/she will be expected to work across all BHB sites, drawing blood specimens from patients of all ages competently and expediently. Key responsibilities include: Promoting and maintaining a professional, courteous and positive image of the Phlebotomy Service; Assessing patient's needs on arrival; Drawing blood specimens by venipuncture and skin puncture; Collecting, labeling and storing blood samples; Ensuring safe/correct disposal of sharps; Entering tests into the LIS; Performing all duties according to hospital policies; Adhering strictly to safety and infection control procedures.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent; Certification in phlebotomy with appropriate training; Minimum of 1 years' experience in a healthcare setting; Successful completion of 150 venipunctures and 50 finger sticks; Proficiency in MS Suite; First Aid / CPR trained preferred. Pre-employment substance abuse screening is mandatory.
