The Senior International Treaty Underwriter role presents a significant opportunity to de facto lead the day-to-day underwriting of the Hiscox International team in Bermuda. You will help continue to build Hiscox's position as a market leader in Property Reinsurance in our established markets of Europe, Japan and Australasia, as well as building out our presence in other markets globally. To do so, you will need a strong grasp of the fundamentals and be capable of applying the same irrespective of the nature of the risk before you. Moreover, you will need well-established links to the broking and underwriting communities to ensure a steady stream of new opportunities continue to present themselves and have the intellectual flexibility to take sound and rational decisions on emerging, niche and often 'unproven' types of risk. The role will report directly to the Head of International Reinsurance. A highly regarded and established underwriter or portfolio manager with a minimum of 10 years' experience in a reinsurance role. Proven track record of marketing to maintain long-term partnerships as well as generating new business leads. Requires an ability and willingness for global travel. A strategic mindset to enable an active role in setting the direction of the International portfolio at Hiscox Re for the future. In addition, a successful track record of constructing and managing a balanced and diversified portfolio across multiple geographies, clients, broker and lines of business. In depth knowledge of reinsurance underwriting principles, risk selection, pricing methodologies and treaty structuring for both proportional and non-proportional products. Evidence of the required technical aptitude to analyse, critique and improve actuarial and catastrophe modelling outputs. Strong command of catastrophe modelling tolls (e.g. RMS, AIR and Internal bespoke models) and the ability assess and interpret model output to make data-driven decisions. A track record of working with third party capital to raise, deploy and execute on profitable capital solutions. Ability to present and justify portfolio underwriting decisions to capital partners with a variety of tailored investment criteria. Proficiency in statistical analysis and comfort working with data analytics platforms (e.g. Excel, SQL, R, Python). Experience with leading people and a proven track record of coaching and mentoring in order to pass knowledge and experience on to members of the team. Strong communicator. Fluency in multiple languages would be a valuable attribute.
