Vice President, Bermuda Claims Group

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling complex Professional Lines claims on U.S. and internationally based risk involving large, sophisticated insureds. The appropriate candidate will be a self-starter who can immediately handle a diverse range of claims and responsibilities and work with the existing claims staff. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Bermuda Claims Group responsible for North American Professional Liability Claims Responsibilities Include: Evaluating claims for exposure, analyzing complex fact patterns and policies for coverage, and negotiating settlements of high exposure with senior professionals Drafting initial and supplemental coverage and informational letters General claims handling and investigation relating to open pending of professional liability claims Reviewing/auditing legal bills from defense and/or coverage counsel Advising underwriters on pertinent insurance and legal issues Overseeing the intake and initial severity evaluation for all new claim notifications Working with senior management, and claims/legal professionals Assisting in management projects as needed Education, Skills and Experience: The successful applicant will have the minimum skills, qualification, and experience: Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited university in the U.S. and/or admission to practice before a bar of a state with the U.S. strongly preferred, with experience in North American insurance law At least 10 years' experience handling high exposure, complex professional liability claims, with emphasis on evaluating and managing complex matters involving Fortune 1000 Companies Knowledge of U.S. employment, securities, and insurance coverage law Significant experience working in the U.S. court system as a practicing defense and/or coverage attorney Inhouse experience working with a variety of primary and excess D&O, EPL and other professional liability insurance and reinsurance policies and negotiating/resolving complex claims for coverage is essential Experience reviewing, auditing and analyzing legal bills Experience estimating and setting reserves within a given authority. Experience participating in employment and securities class action mediations Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including policyholders, brokers, consultants, defense counsel and senior corporate management Knowledge and experience in working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) Strong negotiating, analytical, management and organizational skills
