Senior Casualty Underwriter

Fergus Reinsurance Limited (Fergus Re) is a Class 3B company licensed and regulated by the BMA. The company's capacity is provided by private investors seeking a long-term, conservative approach to insurance linked investment opportunities. Fergus Re targets reinsurance of high frequency, low severity casualty insurance program business, generally on a quota share basis or through loss portfolio transfers (LPT). Due to continued business growth, the company is looking to hire a Senior Underwriter, who will play an integral role in underwriting casualty business, within an entrepreneurial and highly successful company. Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: • Participate in the underwriting strategy and process, including underwriting calls, evaluation of submissions, analyzing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and contract language, and evaluating and prioritizing preparations. • Assess performance of in-force reinsurance programs. • Assist with the development and use of risk modeling and pricing tools. • Manage broker/client meetings, attend underwriting business meetings, and build and maintain broker relationships. • Underwrite, maintain, and grow a profitable book of Casualty business, including Commercial Auto, Commercial General Liability, Employers Liability and Workers' Compensation programs. • Evaluate and prioritize submissions, analyze exposures and coverage requests, determine pricing, negotiate program offerings, and manage all post-bind activities. Qualifications, Education and Experience The role is suited to an ambitious underwriter or broker, looking to assume greater responsibility for driving strategically focused, underwriting growth. • University or college degree in finance, economics, business, management or law. • At least 7 years of insurance/reinsurance industry experience in either a broking or underwriter capacity. • Strong preference for candidates with casualty reinsurance experience in the lines of business underwritten by the company. • At least 7 years of modeling/exposure management experience. • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills with experience in handling, manipulating, and analyzing large data sets. Proven track record working within the US or International marketplace. • CPCU or ACII is required. • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), along with strong negotiation and presentation skills • Well-developed active listening, problem-solving mindset, and interpersonal skills for developing and strengthening broker and client relationships.
