The Senior Manager ERM - Risk & Portfolio Strategy or Manager ERM - Risk & Portfolio Strategy reports to the Chief Risk Officer and provides independent oversight of the company's portfolio strategy, with a focus on governance across capital modelling, exposure management, outward reinsurance, and model risk. Operating within the Enterprise Risk Management function, this position ensures that risk frameworks, tolerances, and methodologies are robust, transparent, and aligned with the company's overall risk appetite. It plays a critical role in enabling effective portfolio steering and capital efficiency, while serving as a key interface between Underwriting, Actuarial, Exposure Management, Finance, and Executive Management, ensuring that risk considerations are embedded in strategic planning, underwriting decisions and performance monitoring. Lead the ongoing enhancement of the Risk Appetite Framework, ensuring tolerances and limits are clearly defined, effectively monitored and integrated into decision-making processes. Lead second-line review and challenge of the capital allocation process and methodology, ensuring the framework for evaluating and monitoring risk-adjusted performance at the portfolio, class of business, and contract levels is robust, transparent, and well understood by key stakeholders. Develop dynamic tolerance triggers to provide early warning of breaches, emerging concentrations and oversee the development and implementation of risk dashboards. Oversee the design and use of risk analytics and metrics to support effective risk and capital management. Oversee the integration of return-on-risk target KPIs to align underwriting performance with business planning and portfolio steering objectives. Oversee the design and enhancement of the Company's Model Risk Management Framework across Pricing, Capital and Exposure Aggregation models, maintaining oversight of the model inventory and model risk registry to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory expectations, Oversee the model change and governance process ensuring changes are properly documented, independently reviewed, validated and approved in line with internal standards. Challenge key assumptions, methodologies and data inputs to ensure models remain fit for purpose. Support the oversight and challenge of the outward reinsurance strategy to ensure alignment with risk appetite and overall portfolio strategy. Lead the Model Change and Validation Working Group and deliver clear reporting on model risks and governance to the Risk Oversight Committee, tracking remediation actions where necessary. Collaborate with relevant business units to design and execute stress testing scenarios, assessing the impact on Company's liquidity and solvency under a range of adverse conditions. Partner with Underwriting to provide oversight of the processes for capturing and enriching complex Casualty exposures ensuring that output effectively inform underwriting appetite and risk tolerances. Support the CRO in strengthening enterprise-wide risk culture, promoting accountability, transparency, and risk-informed decision making. Bachelor's degree in finance, risk management, or a related discipline. Possession of, or active pursuit of an internationally recognised actuarial qualification (e.g. FIA/FFA or FCAS) Senior Manager level - Minimum of ten years of experience, with demonstrated leadership in portfolio strategy, capital efficiency and model risk governance within reinsurance or financial services. Manager level - Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in risk management preferably in the (re) insurance sector or financial services sector with exposure to capital modelling, exposure management or outward reinsurance. Understanding of reinsurance operations, including underwriting, claims and financial processes. Experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks, policies and related documentation Proven understanding of capital modelling and exposure accumulation to support robust second-line oversight of these processes. Ability to provide guidance on model risk and governance related to catastrophe models, pricing tools, and internal capital models, including validation, and change controls. Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements for insurers, particularly Class 4 reinsurers in Bermuda, including the Insurance Act 1978, the Insurance Code of Conduct, and Solvency II equivalence standards. Experience in setting and refining Board-approved risk appetite, tolerances Ability to measure and interpret capital allocations, return on capital and other portfolio profitability metrics Deep understanding of outward reinsurance structures and their strategic impact on managing earnings volatility, optimizing capital efficiency, and shaping the net risk profile. Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, and insightful risk reporting for senior leadership and external stakeholders Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with senior executives, regulators, and rating agencies. Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels. Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
