These programs range from Property Catastrophe and Property Excess of Loss reinsurance to Professional Liability and Marine Treaties. The Assistant General Counsel, Director of Reinsurance Wordings will provide legal counsel and advice regarding treaty and facultative reinsurance wordings to Arch Reinsurance Ltd. (Bermuda) and Arch Reinsurance Europe Ltd. Primary responsibility will be collaborating with underwriters to ensure contract wording accurately reflects underwriting intent. Requires advanced reinsurance knowledge, understanding of primary insurance concepts, legal expertise, excellent writing, and interpersonal skills.Key Responsibilities: Guide the contract wording process across assigned areas of Arch’s Reinsurance Segment, including the management of the Company’s contract wording team. Review and approval of assumed treaty and facultative reinsurance wordings. Works with underwriters to ensure that wordings accurately reflect underwriting intent. Proactively recommend wording enhancements and spot potential interpretation issues. Draft and review outwards retrocessional treaty reinsurance contracts across multiple lines of business. Develop and implement information technology solutions for reinsurance wording management. Develop and deliver training programs to underwriters and management on reinsurance contract terms and conditions. Provide legal advice and support with respect to insurance policy analysis and interpretation on all lines of business. Collaborate with underwriters in contract negotiations, including discussions with external clients and brokers. Develop and deliver training and reporting trends and developments to key clients and stakeholders. Provide legal counsel, business advice, review legal aspects of and review, draft, and negotiate documents in connection with, among other things, reinsurance, insurance, retrocessions, and claims. Work closely with the company’s internal and external stakeholders and clients. Deliver outcomes that consistently gain management credibility. Act as a true business partner, not just a legal adviser, by working with the business team to successfully achieve business goals and objectives.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Experience: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) required, with admission to the Bar in the United States, Bermuda, or the United Kingdom. 7 years of in-house or law firm reinsurance experience, including at least 5 years of recent experience managing the reinsurance contract wording review process within a global reinsurance company. Strong reinsurance industry knowledge, with demonstrated expertise in P&C reinsurance lines across the US and UK/European markets. Experience utilizing and building systems in the contract wording review process. Prior people-management experience is an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently. Must be a motivated, solution-oriented, self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
