Assistant Controller - Investments & Treasury

The Assistant Controller Investments and Treasury will oversee the various accounting methods for a variety of investments ensuring compliance with IFRS, and other regulatory and compliance requirements (including tax). The individual should be comfortable overseeing the work of others (including external service providers), designing, implementing, and maintaining investment accounting processes and controls, and presenting concepts and solutions to senior management. Duties include but are not limited to: Oversee the day-to-day investment accounting activities and treasury work performed (including the services of the outsourced provider). Oversee the day-to-day reinsurance operations work performed by the operations department. Work closely with the firm's outsourcing service suppliers - asset management, investment accounting, and custodian as it pertains to investment accounting. Own and manage implementation projects in relation to new reinsurance transactions, such as implementation of new Investment managers and custodians, including data feeds into existing IT systems and expansion of existing internal control processes. Design, implement and maintain processes and controls in the Investment accounting area and perform control assessments to ensure the required control standards are met. Be responsible for the quality and consistency of the investment accounting (i.e. for the entire investment sub-ledger). Understand, explain, and comment on investment accounting P&L impacts. Prepare relevant internal management reporting and relevant Board reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis for investment related areas of the Balance Sheet and P&L statements. Support in the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with IFRS and in the Bermudian statutory financial statements (investment accounting related areas). Stay up-to-date on new investment accounting pronouncements, and assist in their design, implementation and maintenance. Work together with senior management on expanding accounting policy pertaining to investments. Assist in the implementation of hedge accounting policies and procedures. Assist with the external and internal audit processes. Work closely with the investment department to ensure they understand developments in investment accounting. Assist the Financial Controller with various other general accounting duties.

Requirements

Professional accounting designation required; ACCA, CA, or CPA preferred. A minimum of five years' post qualification experience with experience in the insurance industry. Excellent knowledge of fixed income and derivative accounting under IFRS and Bermuda Statutory principles (and preferably under US GAAP). Excellent knowledge of mutual fund/hedge fund accounting under IFRS and Bermuda Statutory principles (and preferably under US GAAP). Experience with the design, implementation and maintenance of internal control systems related to investments. Experience with the financial reporting requirements under IFRS and Bermuda Statutory principles (and preferably under US GAAP) related to investments. Excellent working knowledge of IFRS financial reporting standards as it pertains to investment accounting. Excellent knowledge of US structured finance products and relevant investment accounting practices under IFRS (and preferably under US GAAP). AAP An operational understanding of hedge accounting. Experience with Bloomberg.
