Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Management Accountant will work closely with the underwriting operations and business information management teams to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting across several areas including reinsurance accounts, investments and treasury and FP&A. The Management Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and testing of various finance systems and also maintaining processes, procedures and control documentation for finance.
Duties and responsibilities
Support month end close processes including maintaining general ledger accounts, account reconciliations and preparation of journal entries;
Assisting with the implementation of new accounting standards as necessary;
Timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external financial reporting with supporting analyses;
Assisting with internal and external audit requirements in relation to both general accounting and reinsurance accounting;
Assisting with BMA and other regulatory reporting including financial survey participation;
Assisting with the preparation of operating expense budgets for planning and forecasting in addition to ad hoc FP&A projects;
Assist with the design, build, and implementation of digital messaging for reinsurance technical and financial accounts settlement;
Develop and maintain processes, procedures and control documentation for existing processes, new systems and ongoing improvements;
Perform technical balance sheet reconciliations and investigations for reinsurance and investment balances;
Oversight of the credit control function along with the required reporting and analysis;
Perform accounting assessments for certain reinsurance contract features under IFRS standards;
Support the investments month end close processes including investment analysis, par and price reconciliations, SOC 1 reviews and other controls and other ad hoc projects;
Other ad hoc projects, as required, to support the finance function.
Requirements
Internationally recognized qualified accounting designation (CA, ACA, CPA or equivalent). Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience, including at least 2 years in a similar role in the (re)insurance industry. Strong working knowledge of IFRS and strong knowledge of (re)insurance accounting systems; proficient with the Microsoft suite of products. Strong understanding of reinsurance technical accounting process, reconciliations and credit control. Experience with investment and treasury processes and controls. Clear attention to detail, with information produced being complete, accurate and of a high standard Collaborative working style, with proven ability to work effectively with colleagues from other business areas. Demonstration of knowledge of practices across all operational areas of a reinsurer would be a distinct advantage. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a proven ability to write and explain reports for management consumption, and contribute to documents for external/public consumption. Strong work ethic, willing and able to work flexibly as required to meet deadlines or address urgent matters as they arise.Salary
