Clean and maintain animal kennels, cages, and care areas in accordance with shelter standards. Exercise and provide enrichment for dogs to support their physical and behavioral well-being. Monitor animal health, behavior, and overall condition, promptly reporting concerns to supervisory staff. Participate in training and enrichment sessions under the guidance of the in-house Animal Behaviorist. Maintain accurate and up-to-date animal records using the shelter’s database. Assist at the front desk as needed, including interacting with the public, volunteers, and adopters.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience working with animals. Working knowledge of basic animal behavior and handling. Previous experience in an animal shelter or a related field is preferred. Frequently required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Ability to safely handle and manage dogs weighing up to 150 lbs. Requires walking and standing for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequently required to bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding positions. May require the use of strength, agility, and proper handling techniques to safely capture and restrain strong or highly active animals. Ability to handle animals safely, calmly, and compassionately in a shelter environment. Basic understanding of animal behavior, body language, and stress signals. Strong observational skills to recognize changes in animal health, behavior, or condition. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, protocols, and safety procedures. Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting, standing, and animal handling.
