VICE PRESIDENT, ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL, NORTH AMERICAN LEGAL & COMPLIANCE GROUP

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing in-house legal services to support the Legal & Compliance Department in Bermuda. The candidate should possess some experience or knowledge in various professional lines and property and casualty lines of coverage. Responsibilities Include: Maintain knowledge of Allied World's current business activities, statutory laws, regulations and judicial developments affecting the business. Review, draft and negotiate a variety of underwriting agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and other agreements that comply with company policies and risk tolerance. Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes and assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures. Oversee daily operations, staffing, communications and workflow management for Legal & Compliance Department in Bermuda. Corporate/Compliance: Work on various corporate and compliance matters as they arise. Ensure compliance with the laws and regulations of Bermuda and other applicable jurisdictions. Liaise with regulators in Bermuda and other jurisdictions on various matters as they arise. Responsible for Bermuda company secretarial matters Underwriters' Counsel: Drafting policy forms and endorsements for various professional and property and casualty lines of coverage, including, but not limited to, Healthcare, Trade Credit, General Casualty, Bermuda Form and Directors and Officers liability. Responsible for analyzing terms of new/renewal business to help identify exposures, document/clarify underwriting intent and ultimately confirm compliance with agreed upon terms and corporate guidelines. Identify and perform training for underwriters on new developments relating to insurance law and new or updated policy forms. Provide support to underwriters as needed on legal issues pertaining to submissions and related coverage. Education, Skills and Experience: The successful applicant will have the minimum skills, qualifications and experience: Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree (LLB) along with 10 plus years' experience with a law firm and/or inhouse insurance department with contract and policy drafting. Ensure compliance with the laws and regulations of Bermuda, North America and other applicable jurisdictions. Liaise with regulators in Bermuda and other jurisdictions on various matters as they arise. In-house experience within an insurance company with background in North American commercial property and casualty and specialty lines insurance law and policy form knowledge. Experience in Reinsurance an asset for this position. Proven ability to lead and manage staff with strong analytical interpersonal and technical skill sets. Ability to quickly understand key business issues and operational objectives. Effective and confident communicator of complex messages (written and oral) to both internal and external audiences. Commercially minded, decisive, highly organized and principled. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, deal with conflicting agendas and meet deadlines. Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and office software.
