Miles Market Ltd. is currently seeking the services of a Specialty Food Buyer to join the team At Miles Market, we pride ourselves on delivering a curated, gourmet shopping experience that celebrates quality, diversity, and delight. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Specialty Food Buyer plays a vital role in upholding this standard by identifying, sourcing, and securing exceptional products that align with our brand promise. This role balances product curation with supplier management, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure our offerings remain fresh, inspiring, and well-stocked. What You Will Do Product Selection & Curation Research and source specialty food items with a focus on premium quality, innovation, and customer appeal. Maintain a deep understanding of gourmet trends, seasonal opportunities, and customer preferences. Collaborate with department heads to identify gaps and maintain a well-rounded product mix. Vendor & Supplier Relations Develop and maintain strong relationships with both local and international suppliers. Negotiate pricing, terms, and promotional support to maximize value and ensure continuity of supply. • Monitor vendor performance and resolve any service or delivery issues in a timely, professional manner. Inventory & Purchasing Oversee all purchasing activities for the specialty food category, ensuring optimal inventory levels across key areas. Use purchasing data and sales reports to make informed buying decisions to maintain the store's supply and avoid overstocks. Coordinate with the Warehouse and Retail teams to ensure smooth product flow from delivery to shelf. Regularly review product turns and effectively manage slow moving inventory to avoid expiry date loss. Leadership & Supervision Directly manage the Buyer/Administrator, providing support, development, and oversight of day-to-day tasks. Foster a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement within the buying function. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Marketing to support in-store promotions, signage, and storytelling around new or featured products. Liaise with Retail and Culinary teams to support tasting events, customer feedback loops, and staff product training. Regular contact with costings and customs clearance teams to ensure efficient clearance of all arriving goods. Qualifications/Your Requirements 3+ years of experience in food buying, procurement, or a related field, preferably in a specialty or gourmet retail environment Strong negotiation skills and experience working with local and international suppliers Proven ability to analyze sales trends and translate insights into actionable strategies Knowledge of food trends, culinary products, and evolving customer preferences Passion for food and commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience Familiarity with customs processes and costing methodology is preferred Proficient in purchasing systems, inventory tools, and Microsoft Excel Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy Effective communicator and collaborator with a problem-solving mindset Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment and meet tight deadlines Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior team members •.
