Works under general direction of the DON to provide personal care and assistance to assigned residents, enabling them to maintain a quality of life within limits to their health status and / or the ageing. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Provides personal care and assistance for assigned residents. Gives am and pm care, including baths (bed, shower or tub), shampoo hair, oral care, shave, nail care, etc. Assists residents to bathroom. Keeps residents clean and comfortable, keeps resident’s rooms neat and orderly. Assists with meals and feeding as needed. Collects specimens (urine, stool, sputum) as directed. Receives residents’ reports at the beginning of each shift and receives assignments. Reports on assigned residents. Takes and records vital signs (TPR, BP) as directed. Measures and records blood sugar as ordered. Observes residents (physical appearance, attitude, response to medication and treatments, appetite, etc.) records observation and alerts nurse to significant observation, problems or concerns. Maintains confidentiality of information. Reports and records all incidents. The post holder must be willing to work on a shift basis. Cooperates and communicates with other staff to maintain a safe, supportive environment for residents and staff. Escorts residents to the hospital or to a doctor’s appointment as needed. Participates in the activities programme.

Requirements

High School diploma, Certification as a Geriatric Aide, Must be registered with the Bermuda Nursing Council, Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a CNA, Previous experience working at a hospital or Rest / Nursing Home setting would be an asset, Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, Must have the strength to lift and transfer residents.
