The Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS), a premier marine research and education institute and a unit of Arizona State University (ASU), is seeking an experienced and motivated Kitchen Assistant / Dishwasher to join our team. The successful applicant will be required to clean the kitchen and interior and exterior dining areas to the highest possible standards. Additionally, they will also carry out all jobs assigned by the Head Chef &/or Chef to ensure the smooth operation of the Dining Department. DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES Wash pots, pans and dishes, etc. from each meal and store all items in the correct place. Clean the kitchen stove, grill and deep fryer after each meal service (appliances should be pulled out and the surrounding area cleaned). Change deep fryer oil as needed. Empty and clean all trash cans after each meal service. Dispose of trash and empty boxes by putting in the waste compactor. Sweep and wash all the floors in the kitchen and dining areas. Wipe down stainless-steel serving areas, dining room tables and outdoor picnic benches after each meal service. Sweep kitchen steps every day and hose down with water once a week. Wash the dish cloths and aprons in the laundry facility. Prepare packed lunch bags as needed. Assist the Head Chef and/or Chef with stacking of incoming inventory. Assist the Head Chef and/or Chef with all duties as assigned by them to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen and dining area. Comply with all health and safety guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS Proven proficiency in maintaining only the highest standards of cleanliness in kitchen and dining hall areas. Self-motivated, with the ability to work alone with energy and enthusiasm. During emergencies, prepared to report to work at short notice and at unsocial hours, if requested. Must be physically fit as the job involves lifting and heavy-duty cleaning. Must be available to work split shifts, evenings and weekends.
