Chief Clinical Physicist & Radiation Safety Officer

At Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (BCHC), we are seeking a dedicated Chief Clinical Physicist & Radiation Safety Officer to join our team. In this dual role, you will ensure excellence in radiation therapy treatments and safety of the Centre's radiation sources. Additionally, this role will oversee the evaluation, planning, delivery, and optimization of treatments while also managing a comprehensive radiation protection programme and fostering a safe environment. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Physics and Patient Care: Collaborate with radiation oncologists (local and overseas) to ensure safe, precise, and effective radiation treatment planning and delivery, including simulations, imaging processing. treatment plan design and treatment delivery. Implement special irradiation procedures. Develop and maintain a Quality Management Programme in alignment with international standards and local regulations. Assume a lead role in the acquisition, commissioning, installation, and maintenance of treatment machines, planning systems and related equipment. Design computer programmes to improve analyses, processing and integration of imaging, planning and delivery of information. Support clinical research, departmental chart reviews, and technology integration initiatives. Coordinate with service providers for repair and maintenance of auxiliary radiation therapy systems and infrastructure. Radiation Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive radiation protection programme. Ensure safe use of all radiation sources and compliance with local and international regulations. Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections. Chair the Radiation Safety Committee and serve as the primary radiation regulatory liaison. Oversee shielding surveys, personnel dosimetry, and annual safety training. Investigate radiation incidents and implement corrective measures. Maintain accreditation readiness through continuous quality improvement and compliance reviews. Develop and enforce radiation safety policies and operational protocols. Leadership & Strategic Planning: Lead, train and mentor physicists and locum staff. Administrator the technical aspect of clinical programmes. Partner with administration on budgeting, strategic planning, and technology assessment. Establish and monitor key performance indicators. Assist with fostering a safety-first culture and lead training in radiation protection, emergency preparedness, and incident. response. Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills: Master's or PhD in Radiation/Medical Physics. Eight (8) years of clinical radiation oncology physics. Experience in Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy. Active ABR or equivalent certification. Proficient in computer programming languages. Expertise in performing, interpreting and communicating dosimetry calculations and measurements. Familiarity with Varian TrueBeam and Aria clinical environment is preferred. Experience in managing a Radiation Oncology Physics programme. Prior experience with departmental accreditation and reaccreditation. Knowledge of local regulations and healthcare industry standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others. Strong strategic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Able to maintain the highest ethical standards and integrity while handling confidential and sensitive information. Detail oriented, organised and adaptable. Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning. High emotional intelligence and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
