Bermuda Waterworks is the leading drinking water supply and distribution services company in Bermuda. The Company is currently seeking applicants for two roles: Plumber/Pipe Fitter as well as a Water System Operator, both roles are within the Utility Division. WATER SYSTEM OPERATOR The Water System Operator focuses on maintaining a safe and efficient operation of water systems and the distribution of potable water. The Water System Operator engages in diverse division activities including water main leak repairs, installing new water services, meter reading, and servicing water meters. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Perform water mains and service line installations, repairs, and adjustments. Perform valve and meter installations and replacements. Perform manual labour such as digging, laying pipes in trenches and shoveling materials. Drive a company vehicle to collect and deliver equipment and materials to job sites. Assist with inventory control and record keeping of operating materials. Assist with the maintenance and repairs of water reservoirs, tanks, wells, tunnels, etc. Respond to customer service requests and emergency work as needed. Assist with monthly utility division meter readings to record water usage accurately. Collect and test water samples for chlorine and adjust accordingly. Qualifications and Experience: A minimum of 3 years' of water utility related experience including pipe fitting, meter installation and operating water main gate valves up to 12" (twelve inches). Valid driver's license required, a Heavy truck license is preferred on willingness to obtain. Experience with construction equipment an advantage. Meet the physical requirements to safely and effectively perform the required duties including some exposure to noise, heavy lifting/moving, standing, climbing, working at heights and in confined spaces, exposure to water and inclement weather conditions. This is a physically demanding job that requires good hand-eye coordination. A sound and reliable work ethic with good time keeping and communication skills. Ability to read, write and do arithmetic at a level required for the job. • Ability to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and public holidays and for emergencies. PLUMBER/PIPE FITTER Plumber/Pipe Fitters focus on the maintenance, repair, and construction of our potable water treatment and distribution system as well as a variety of relative maintenance tasks. This is a dynamic role that engages in diverse operational activities including operating construction equipment, assisting with water main leak repairs, installation of new water services, painting and general maintenance of buildings. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Lay and fit pipelines, make water water line taps, install water services, valves and other water devices. Identify service and main leaks, operate pipe locators, install and inspect backflow devices. Excavate trenches, install shoring, and assist at job sites, including manual labour such as digging or shoveling materials. Take part in scheduled monthly utility division meter readings utilizing a handheld computer to record readings Key Qualifications and Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Qualified plumber or 4 years successful employment in the construction industry, public utility industry or a similar industry. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment and power tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
