Liberty Group Ltd/BELCO is hiring a BELCO is seeking a Senior Engineer - Protection, Control & Metering to join our Transmission & Distribution team. The successful applicant will be responsible for organising, developing and maintaining the protection, control and metering facilities on the generation, transmission and distribution networks. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Manage the planning, development, installation, maintenance and repair work associated with protection, control and metering facilities and the testing and commissioning of the plant and equipment. Manage financial expenditure in accordance with the Company's policies, standing instructions and practices. Ensure proper security measures are enforced for the protection of all plant equipment and storage of the department. Initiate requests for other departments to carry out engineering and other services when required. Engineer protection system settings and systems. Assist the Operations Technology team with programming and design of System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). Create detailed control schematics, wiring diagrams and protection logic drawings. Investigate and analyse transmission system disturbances and relay operations to determine root cause and recommend system improvements. Develop and coordinate relay settings database, test standards and maintenance procedures. Ensure compliance with reliability policies and standards. Direct maintenance personnel in the installation, verification and upgrade of substation protection, communication and control equipment. Provide direction, training, scheduling and performance review for a team of utility technical personnel. Support system operations group during outages and emergencies with analysis of digital fault data and relay sequence of operations review. Assist and support the other engineering and maintenance activities within the department. Provide project management and administration activities for assigned work. Support safety, diversity and social responsibility goals of the department, business unit and corporation. Contribute to the creation of department budgets and financial tracking activities. Develop complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications systems. Engage, support and develop works, studies and reviews associated with IPP's, Distributed Generation and other Grid Connection activities.Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience in power systems or utilities preferred. Minimum of five (5) years' experience in design and implementation of electric utility protection systems, substation design or communication systems. Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Ability to understand protective relay principals and their applications to three-phase power systems. Knowledge of standard electrical maintenance practices, policies and standards. Authorised or the ability to become authorised to SAP Level CE. Experience with design standards and utility system operations. Strong oral and written communications skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of the organisation and external stakeholders. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask. Experience with personal computers, Microsoft Office applications and trade-related software with the ability to maintain proficiency with new systems and software.
