Based out of Bermuda, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of the vision and strategy for Reinsurance Underwriting within the National Carriers Team. The Underwriter will focus on the successful management of the National Carriers portfolios and underwriting strategy within the MS Amlin AG entity. You will report to the Head of National Carriers located in the US and collaborate closely with colleagues in Bermuda, New York, Miami, and Zurich to deliver. Your responsibilities Underwrite, quote, negotiate, and manage Property reinsurance business (per risk, pro rata, and catastrophe) for defined portfolios, in line with the MS Amlin AG's, risk appetite, underwriting guidelines, and authority levels. Strengthen relationships with broker, client, and industry partners by leading regular meetings and market interactions while clearly communicating MS Reinsurance's strategy and value proposition. Analyze, model, and make informed risk decisions using third-party catastrophe and vendor models (e.g., AIR, RMS, Verisk, Moody's), challenging and supplementing model outputs with additional data and judgement. Monitor and manage portfolio performance and profitability by deal, client, and portfolio over the full life cycle, including exposure management, RDS and aggregate control, and quarterly reporting. Peer-review a broad cross-section of risks, quotes, endorsements, and contracts within the assigned portfolio to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to underwriting standards. Assist with the analysis of quarterly figures, projections, and reserving requirements, and contribute to planning, budgeting, and internal reporting for the National Carriers and Property portfolios. Collaborate across global teams to support company-wide objectives within our Property, Casualty, and Specialty underwriting teams to coordinate reinsurance solutions across multiple lines and to deliver seamless experience for our National Carrier clients. Contribute to process improvements, tools, and analytics that enhance underwriting efficiency, portfolio insight, and reporting at client, portfolio, and enterprise level. Represent MS Reinsurance at industry events, conferences, and panels, supporting the company's market presence and thought leadership. Build, mentor, and develop analysts and junior underwriters, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and client-focused culture. Operate in line with the company's Business Ethics policy and comply with all applicable risk, regulatory, legal, and internal governance requirements. Your profile Minimum 15 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance underwriting and/or broking, with a strong track record in Property treaty across US and international markets, and Casualty lines. Bachelor's degree in business, finance, insurance, actuarial science, or quantitative field. Professional designations such as RPLU, CPCU, ARe, or equivalent strongly preferred. Strong and established relationships with reinsurance brokers in the US and internationally. Deep understanding of global insurance and reinsurance markets, with hands-on portfolio management experience and strong knowledge of policy wordings and contract terms and conditions. Working knowledge of Regional/Multiline and MGA/Programs business. Proven ability to price and structure complex reinsurance programs within delegated authority, including effective use of catastrophe and vendor models and sound technical underwriting judgement. Established, trusted relationships with global brokers and carriers, with a demonstrated ability to originate, develop, and retain profitable business and to run client and broker meetings independently. Strong influencing, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work effectively within a matrix organization, collaborating across geographies and functions while also operating as an accountable individual contributor. Demonstrates innovation, thought leadership, and drive, with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities, improving processes, and enhancing client value. High level of cultural awareness and integrity, acting in an ethical, inclusive, and professional manner always.
