Family Counsellor

The role of the family counsellor is to provide family counseling and therapy to families with preschool children (birth -5 years of age); conduct family assessments, as required, to determine need for treatment and/or referral. The post holder, with clinical supervision, will evaluate and treat mental and emotional disorders and other health and behavioural concerns as well as address a wide array of relationship issues within the context of the family system while consulting and collaborating with relevant allied professionals, as required. The post holder has the autonomy to determine and manage their own caseload, handle their own referrals, files, data, reports and clinical assessments.

Requirements

The post holder must possess a Master's Degree, or its equivalent, in Marriage & Family Therapy or Counselling or a related field which included academic courses and technical skills being trained in the DSM Diagnostic Criteria related to mental health; family systems; family therapy; individual and group. A Professional designation as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or other relevant clinical licensure. Post holder must also possess CPR/ first Aid/ Automated External Defibrillator and SCARS Certification. Minimum of three (3) years post-licensure experience with families with young children. Working knowledge and experience with computers is essential. Good interpersonal skills and emotional maturity are important assets. The post holder must have a valid driver's license, provide own transportation and will be reimbursed for mileage. Must maintain SCARS Training and CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
